Value of Old Banknotes from Henry’s Bank in La Prairie and Montreal, Canada

Old Money from Henry’s Bank in La Prairie and Montreal

Henry’s Bank in Montreal was only open in 1837.  It sounds like a spurious bank, but it actually was a legitimate private bank.  It had to close because a cashier embezzled money.  Bank notes from Henry’s Bank really aren’t especially rare or valuable.  They are certainly old, but they are outside the interests of many collectors.

Bank notes are broken down into three categories, scrip issues, draft issues, and note issues.  Anything denominated at less than a dollar is a scrip issue.  One and two dollar bank notes are drafts.  Five and ten dollar bills are note issues.  All notes are dated as a variation of Juin or June 27 1837.
