Value of Old Banknotes from The Commercial Bank of Montreal, Canada

Old Money from The Commercial Bank of Montreal

We don’t really know a whole lot about The Commercial Bank of Montreal other than that it was in business from 1835 to 1837.  One, two, five, ten, twenty, and fifty dollar bank notes were printed (they were also denominated in pounds and shillings).  Notes are signed by G.B. Rolleston and Jno E. Mills.  These can be dated as 1 Sep, 21 Aug, or 10 Oct all in 1835.  1836 notes are dated as 1st June.  These are rare today, but collector interest is relatively low.  Keep that in mind when valuing your bank note.
