Value of Old Banknotes from The Provincial Bank of Canada in Stanstead

Old Money from The Provincial Bank of Canada in Stanstead

The Provincial Bank of Canada operated out of Stanstead from 1856 to 1863.  The bank got out to a shaky start but it was able to right itself thanks to support of major shareholders like George W. McCollum.  Despite having closed more than 150 years ago, currency from The Provincial Bank is actually fairly common and generally sells for $200 to $2,000 depending on condition.  Danforth Wright & Co. New York & Philada printed one, two, and five dollar bills for the bank.  They are all dated as April 1st 1856.  Each note also makes mention of the equivalency in shillings.  We can tell you that Queen Victoria is shown on the $2 bill; Prince Consort is shown on the $5 bill.  Please contact us if you need a free appraisal.
