Old Money from The Bank of Upper Canada in Kingston

The Bank of Upper Canada in Kingston existed from 1819 to 1822.  That is a very short period of time during a very early period in the history of banking in Canada.  The bank operated without a charter starting on April 16th 1819.  It was never given a chartered and it ultimately failed on September 23rd 1822.  Bank notes were issued.  Read below for more details.

Bank Notes:

Paper money issued by The Bank of Upper Canada can be broken down into three categories.  The first type is known as partially engraved notes.  That means that the date had to be written in with a pen and ink.  Denominations of one, two, five, and ten dollar bills were printed.  All of these are relatively common and normally trade for around $200.

The second type of notes have a fully engraved date of Jan 1 1820 (as seen at the bottom of this page).  These were printed as $1, $2, and $3 bills.  These are rarely worth more than $150.

The last type is a scrip issue dated August 23, 1820.  These are very rare.
