Value of Old Banknotes from La Banque De St. Jean, Canada
Old Money from La Banque De St. Jean
La Banque Se St. Jean was in Quebec from 1873 until 1908. The bank had to close as a result of mismanagement and criminal activities of the bank’s president. The bank did manage to issue bank notes, but they are very rare. See our guide for details.
Bank Notes from 1873:
These are dated as 1 September 1873 or 1 Septe 1873. The British American Bank Note Co. Montreal printed four, five, and ten dollar bills for La Banque De St. Jean. Each note has an engraved portrait of L Molleur. Molluer also signed each bank note along with J. L’Ecuyer. Four dollar bills are occasionally available. All other denominations are very rare.
Bank Notes from 1881:
La Banque De St. Jean issued ten dollar bills dated as 1 Avril 1881. These have the same design as the 1873 $10 bills. Ph. Baudouin and Molluer signed these 1881 bank notes.
Bank Notes from 1900:
Five dollar bills dated as 1 Avril 1900 were issued by La Banque St. Jean. These were signed by P.J. L’Heureux and Molleur. The design from 1873 was reused on these notes.
Bank Notes from 1906:
La Banque De St. Jean issued newly designed bank notes in 1906. Five and ten dollar bills were printed and dated as 1 Avril 1906. These are also extremely rare. Jacques Cartier appears on these bank notes (and on notes from many other banks).
