Value of Old Banknotes from The Commercial Bank of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada

Old Money from The Commercial Bank of Manitoba in Winnipeg

The Commercial Bank of Manitoba was only open in Winnipeg from 1885 until 1893.  It originally started as a reorganization of McArthur, Boyle, and Campbell, which was a private bank in Manitoba.  McArthur signed all bank notes from The Commercial Bank.  The bank closed thanks to liberal lending policies and a run on the bank.  See our guide below for more details about paper money from this institution.

Bank Notes from May 1 1885:

The Canada Bank Note Co. Montreal printed five and ten dollar bills for The Commercial Bank of Manitoba.  Each note is dated as May 1 1885.  We have a circulated five dollar bank note shown below.  It has a portrait of Queen Victoria.  We have a proof of an 1885 $10 bill at the bottom of this page.  Proofs and specimens are both available, with specimens being about twice as valuable.  Issued bank notes are very scarce and valuable.  Contact us for pricing details.

Bank Notes from 2nd Jan 1891:

Five and ten dollar bills were printed by The British American Bank Note Co. Ottawa.  Each note has a portrait and the signature of D. MacArthur.  An image of the bank office is shown on the left hand side of each bank note.  The engraved date reads as 2nd Jan 1891.  Both denominations are very rare.  We would come the chance to purchase either denomination.
