Value of Old Banknotes from The Colonial Bank of Chatham, Canada
Old Money from The Colonial Bank of Chatham
This is a spurious bank that was schemed up by several individuals mostly from Buffalo. The notes were intended to circulate and defraud people in the Buffalo area. At the time these notes were printed they completely worthless, but today they are actually fairly scarce. Both remainders and “issued” bank notes still exist. While all of these bank notes are rare, they aren’t universally accepted as being true charter notes due to the fact that the issuing bank didn’t really exist. Two, three, five, and ten dollar banks notes were printed; each bank note also references the shilling amounts which are 10, 15, 25, and 50 shillings. We have a three dollar note pictured at the bottom of the page. All denominations are dated as being from 1837. Specific dates are all variations of January 4th, February 3rd, and February 15th. Please contact us if you need help valuing your bank note. We are also buyers.
