Old Money from The Mechanics Bank in Montreal

Don’t get this bank confused with the legitimate Mechanics Bank that was in Montreal in the 1870s and 1880s.  We are looking at a spurious bank here.  It showed up in 1837.  Its bank notes were released for circulation in the Buffalo, NY area.  Very few people were fooled though as the press and police quickly revealed the scam.  Three, five, and ten dollar notes exist today.  They should be dated as May 1 1837 or June 1 1837.  Most are worth around $150.  Some can be worth more based on their condition.  The signatures of F.E. Whiting, T.T. Copley, H.H. Harris, or Thomas. H. Sprague could be on each note.
