Value of Old Banknotes from The Merchants Bank of Montreal, Canada
Old Money from The Merchants Bank of Montreal
We currently don’t know much about this financial institution other than that it was operating in Montreal in the 1830s. Observed bank notes are dated as April 6 1837. We know that five, ten, and twenty dollar bills were printed for the Merchants Bank by Rawdon, Wright & Hatch, New York. Both $10 and $20 bills are very rare. Five dollar bills are occasionally available for around $300 or more (depending on condition). Brooks and Brennan signed some bank notes.
