Old Money from The Summerside Bank of Prince Edward Island
This bank, as the name suggests, was located in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. The bank was small but profitable. Its years of operation were 1866 to 1901. It was absorbed by the Bank of New Brunswick in 1901. Paper money from The Summerside Bank if very rare. Our guide below has more information.
Bank Notes from 1866 & 1872:
These bank notes can be denominated as dollars or as shillings and pence. The American Bank Note Company printed one, two, four, five, eight, and ten dollar bills for The Summerside Bank. Exact dates are 2nd April 1866, 22nd Jany. 1866, and Feby. 1st 1872. We are showing a $1 bill from 1872. It has the red Canada Currency overprint. Most notes from this time period will not have an overprint.
Bank Notes from 1884:
The British American Bank Note Co only printed $1 bills for The Summerside Bank in 1884. They are dated as December 1st 1884. They can have a green back or a plain back. Robt Mc C. Stavert and Angus McMillan signed each bank note. This is the most common year and denomination for the bank. Contact us for a more exact appraisal.
Bank Notes from 1891:
We don’t have a picture of a $5 bill from July 1st 1891. Each note has a vignettes of farm implements, ships, and Britannia. These are rare bank notes. Only a couple are currently known to exist.
Bank Notes from 1900:
This is the last year that The Summerside Bank issued paper money. Only ten dollar bills were printed and they are dated as Sept. 1st 1900. These only exist as remainders today.
