Value of Old Banknotes from The Exchange Bank of Toronto, Canada
Old Money from The Exchange Bank of Toronto
The Exchange Bank of Toronto originally started business in 1855 as The Banking House of R.H. Brett. In early 1856 the name was changed to The Exchange Bank of Toronto and one, two, five, and ten dollar bank notes were printed by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson, New-York. Apparently the Canadian government rejected the notes and they were never released for circulation. The Bank ultimately closed in May 1858. Today we are left with a large supply of remainder and proof bank notes. Most examples sell for around $200.
