Value of Old Banknotes from The Farmer’s Bank of Toronto, Canada
Old Money from The Farmer’s Bank of Toronto
We are looking at a bank note purportedly from The Farmer’s Bank. This would be considered a fraudulent or spurious note. That means that it was not back by an actual bank. It was created to trade on the colloquial name of The Farmer’s Joint Stock Banking Company. Despite being absolutely worthless at the time of creation in the 1840s, bank notes this institution are actually quite rare today. The one observed example is for $5 (or one pound five shillings) and is dated as Aug. 3 1843. Please contact us if you have one.
